There are signs that you can look for that will indicate that you may have a problem with your roof whether it is leaking or damaged. Sometimes signs can be very noticeable but you may look at your roof and think there are no problems; but without regular maintenance checks and knowing what to look for, there could be a problem and you just do not see it yet. It could start off as a small issue that you do not notice and can in turn become a major problem.
Here are some things you can look out for that could in the long run save you a big problem with more costs than you would like.
- There is a crack in the roof
- Shingles appear curled, out of place or missing
- The roof has dark stains, an algae growing or even mold or moss
- The roof is missing granules
- The roof is older than 20 years
- Shingles are rotting
- Ceiling is sagging
- A buckle in the shingles (meaning it was improperly installed or no ventilation)
- Hail damage, denting
- Obvious aging, discoloration
- Damaged flashing
If you can see any of these things just starring at your roof, it is time to contact a roofing contractor. If you are unsure just starring from the ground, then you should get a ladder and take a closer look or you could also contact local roofing contractors to take a look.
